I got started trading options in 1994 after I took the Series 67 test to become a stockbroker. I did well on most areas of the test, but missed quite a few option-related questions. I missed passing the exam by one question! My score was 69.6%, and 70% was required to pass. No exceptions.
I studied options to take the test again, but I found myself on a different path. I landed a job with a large financial website and started writing about the market. I analyzed and wrote about the market for 4 years.
Back in 1992 before taking and failing the Series 67 exam I bought my first three stocks recommended to me by my full-time broker. He wanted to invest my $10,000 in BlockBuster, Consolidated Freight, and a medical company. He ignored the stocks I had wanted to buy – Tommy Hilfiger, Chrysler and Cisco Systems. After a year of holding his three recommended stocks and losing 20%, I watched my three stock picks triple in value. I closed my positions (and paid full-time broker commissions), and started trading my own account online. I spent years learning how the market works and what makes stocks move.
At first, I day traded stocks and made $15,000 profit in 6 months. Then I lost $8,000 in one day. That was the wake-up call I needed to define my trading strategies. I needed a trading plan!
Once I discovered the power of stock options and the leverage they provided, I never went back to stocks. I haven’t bought a single share of stock in over 10 years. During this time I worked for a packaging company and built a nice 401K retirement account which is primarily what I trade now.
The best advice I can give you about trading stock options or any kind if instrument is to read, read, and read more. Trade the trends, study charts, and look for news before it is news.

I got my start in Internet marketing back in 1995 when I was working for a large mortgage company. I suggested to the owner that we should build a website and try to generate leads. He told me to go for it, so I bought some basic website software and started teaching myself HTML, Javascript, email marketing, and search engine optimization. Of course, this was back in the day when search engines were in their infancy.
While I was learning Internet Marketing I got my first taste of trading when I took an online course on trading futures options. After a few months I figured I had it all figured out so I purchased my first option – a Lean Hogs put – and made $750 within 2 days. Thinking this was a piece of cake, I purchased a Heating Oil call a few days later and promptly lost all my profits within a few hours. Humbled I began studying the markets and started to understand the importance of thorough technical analysis, acquiring a proper trading mindset, and careful money management.
When I’m not busy with Internet marketing, I enjoy analyzing the markets. Over the years I have purchased many online courses, ebooks and systems, studied technical indicators extensively, traded stocks, options, and Forex, and developed a decent knowledge of how the markets move. Some of my favorite indicators include Linear Regression Channels, NYSE TICK, Commodity Channel Index (CCI), Williams %R, ADX, and Moving Averages. I see trading as a viable way to achieve financial independence. I believe that Momentum Options Trading can help you achieve just that.
