The bulls are on track for another winning week as the market moved higher on Thursday. The bulls just need to get through this morning’s unemployment numbers without giving back the farm by the close.
The Dow advanced 33 points, or 0.2%, to finish at 14,329. The blue-chips sniffed 14,354 which was a good signal 14,500 could be near as the index held positive territory all day.
The S&P 500 gained 3 points, or 0.2%, to settle at 1,544. The index is flirting with 1,550 and will need to close above this level to confirm fresh all-times highs (1,575) are in the breadbox. The bulls will need to hold 1,525 on any pullback.
The Nasdaq jumped 9 points, or 0.3%, to end at 3,232. Tech reached a peak of 3,235 and another 12-year high after testing 3,221 on the open. The bulls held 3,225 which keeps the door open for a run to 3,250+.
The Russell 2000 added over 4 points, or 0.5%, to close at 934.57 and another all-time high while the S&P 500 Volatility Index ($VIX, 13.06, down 0.47) fell another 3%.
Futures are showing a strong start this morning following the barrage of good economic data that hit before the open: Dow (+62); S&P 500 (+5); Nasdaq 100 (+9).
